Twenty years ago, Putin wanted to join NATO. Why doesn’t NATO absorb Russia?

Flags and Countries of the North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO). As of June 2022 there are 30 member states and NATO currently recognizes Sweden, Finland, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Georgia, and Ukraine as aspiring members.

Putin asked when NATO was going to invite Russia to join.

Putin was informed that eligible countries had to apply to join NATO.

Putin replied, “Why should Russia stand in line behind other countries that don’t matter?”

That was closer to 30 years ago and there has NEVER been a Russian application to join NATO.

More recently another prominent Russian remarked when asked whether Russia would apply to join NATO, “Great Nations do not join Alliances. Great Nations create Alliances.”

That was about 12 or 13 years ago.

There still has NEVER been a Russian application to join NATO and now, Russia is NOT even eligible as it is a Dictatorship and all NATO Countries are Democracies.

As we all know, NATO was created to keep the Americans in, the Germans down and the Russians out. Simply put, NATO is an anti-Russian organization where the Europeans submit to the will of the Americans in order to be able to be as anti-Russian as they want. For example, can Estonia with its army of fewer than 8 thousand people afford to be vehemently anti-Russian? Sure, it can, because the US pays that bill.
