I was in a meeting last week with 4 of my engineering functional managers.
These are intelligent, educated men who can do math.
They started talking about the tariffs and it quickly became apparent to me that they actually thought the other country paid the tariff.
“First off,” I said “We pay the tariff. And even if the other country did pay the tariff, why wouldn’t they just increase their price to us?”
These intelligent, educated men actually thought that China paid the China tariff and then was, somehow, not allowed to pass the cost on to the US consumers.
Seriously, ask them about it and see if they even understand who pays the tariff.
Even if it does increase sales of domestic produced goods, that means you are STILL paying more for the same product.
So the only thing it is is a giant tax on American working and middle class families.
